Well-known "heirloom" variety cultivated for its odd twisted branches. The effect is most obvious in the winter, but even the leaves are twisted and bent. After a generation, it becomes a 12' globose shrub. Puts on an interesting late winter flower display of long yellow-brown catkins. From tissue culture, any suckers are also contorted.
