Started in 1982 by co-owners Mark & Jolly Krautmann on 5 acres of rented ground, we distinguished our business to reliably offer large quantities of some of the most desirable and rare of seedling landscape trees – Acer griseum, Cercidiphyllum, & Stewartia. Disease-free Red and Green Japanese Maple seedlings became a staple, and still are, more than 40 years later
We have grown in management efficiency and size around the interests and strengths of our key people. Our management strategy is based on our experience that employees who are inspired by their work and career CARE, and that shows in the box or the delivery truck when you open the door. Solid value delivered reliably, and transparent communication - start to finish – that’s our craft. We train our staff to be competent. We then trust them to do the right thing, and that’s our enduring pledge to you, our customer. Verify it again every year, as you have for almost two generations.
Moving forward, we continue to promote capable staff from within, develop contract production arrangements with clients, and carefully choose the most promising of new woody plants. With Octavio Martinez as new owner, Heritage remains a family-run operation.
We vividly recall Jolly’s regular admonition: “Make sure…” !
Mark and Octavio were paying close attention and will continue to honor her legacy. Octavio’s in charge now, but ol’ Mark is sticking around for the fun of it, but on a lighter schedule. His favorite expression seems to be “Help me understand.” Octavio is making major upgrades in production capacity and developing new relationships with the best of plant breeders overseas and here in the States. Watch for those exciting new cultivars and opportunities in the seasons ahead.
