About fifteen years ago, while Octavio was doing inventory in the oak crop, he noticed a seedling with distinctive characteristics. It stood out because of its large, deeply dissected leaves, with each lobe ending in a sharp point, very unlike its swamp white oak siblings. Though it looks like a hybrid, its genes test as pure bicolor. It grows with good form, straight central leader and branches with wide attachment. Overall, the tree is developing a nice pyramidal to oval form. We think this is a good tree that stands out among so many oaks.
