Selected by Michael Yanny at Johnson's Nursery for its brilliant red consistent fall color, moderate growth rate, dense branching and rounded form. It may have the brightest fall color of any Carpinus caroliniana. This is useful as a specimen plant either in full sun or the shade and tolerates heavy soils well. It should not be used in droughty soils and develops its best fall colors in full sun. The original plant measured 13' tall x 13' wide at age 15.
