Quercus gambelii 'Bear Tree' TAYLORMADE™

A TAYLOR MADE™ oak this from Apache Creek, Huefano Co., CO. Because the acorns have low tannins, the bears climb all through the tree eating them, but bears are poor judges of how much weight a branch holds. It's a large and robust tree with good form - until a too-fat bear visits - and golden fall color. Allan Taylor said, "it's acorns can be eaten like peanuts" and that's a strong endorsement. It's a great tree across the West and probably hardier than zone 5.
