Magnolia 'Sunsation'

An abundance of rosy-accented yellow flowers appears later in the season than any of the other yellows and before the emergent leaves. August Kehr, the hybridizer, would have never accepted much credit for this and other plants he created, but he deserves all our thanks for his exceptional work. Interesting story: On their way to see Augie from Raleigh, NC, Pat McCracken and Mark Krautmann accepted August's invitation to name his superior yellows, which were at that time only numbered. By the time they reached his home in Hendersonville they came up with Stellar Acclaim, Sunspire, Solar Eclipse, Hot Flash, and Sunsation. Augie was too modest to name his own "children".
