Flaking bark texture, even on young trees. Although its common name indicates that it prefers moist areas, it is drought tolerant.The silver undersides of the leaves lend contrast to the upper leafsurface, prompting the species name "bicolor". Among the easiestof the oaks to transplant, it is also hardy and has few insect ordisease problems.
