Sean Hogan of Cistus Nursery in Portland, Oregon collected seed and named this strain from 10’ trees in a high mountain valley in Tamaulipas, Mexico. The leaves are attractively fuzzy and crinkled on these slow growers. Everything about this oak is different than what you know of oak trees; growing like a shrub when conditions are harsh or a tree when given a little attention and irrigation. Semievergreen.
